Senior Vice President of Legislative Strategy in New York City

Overview: The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) is on the lookout for a proactive and seasoned professional to take on the role of Senior Vice President of Legislative Strategy for our Government Affairs division. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding organizational, management, and advocacy capabilities, serving as the principal representative of REBNY in matters concerning New York City legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with REBNY staff, members, and external lobbyists to monitor, assess, and prioritize City Council legislation and Mayoral initiatives, establish positions, identify engaged stakeholders, and promote cooperation in response to policy issues.
- Formulate and implement REBNY's City legislative agenda and strategic action plan, proactively engaging with elected officials and their key staff.
- Craft testimony in partnership with the policy division and participate in legislative hearings at the City level.
- Build and sustain robust relationships with City elected officials to further the organization's interests and objectives.
- Represent REBNY at political, governmental, and various public engagements.
- Attend City-focused legislative and governmental hearings, providing follow-up reports to REBNY staff and members.
- Keep abreast of ongoing policy and political developments to guide the organization's advocacy efforts.
- Support the Senior Vice President in divisional planning to ensure that both short-term and long-term goals are consistently reviewed and achieved.
- Engage regularly with senior leadership from real estate firms and REBNY's diverse membership to deliver policy updates, offer guidance, and gather feedback.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in public policy or a related field is mandatory.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience working with city, state, or federal government officials, particularly with the City Council and the Mayor's office.
- At least eighteen (18) months of demonstrated experience on issues directly affecting the real estate sector.
- Proven experience in managing multiple advocacy initiatives and adapting to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic setting.
