Role Summary

The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Fundraising, reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), is a key leadership position within our 13-member development team. This role is essential in formulating and executing the organization’s fundraising strategies. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in fundraising, particularly in corporate sponsorship and individual contributions, along with a strong dedication to enhancing New York City and building community through a diverse and innovative volunteer network.

The SVP will primarily focus on developing, implementing, and managing the infrastructure necessary to support and grow a budget of $9.2 million, showcasing proficiency in guiding the organization toward its financial goals.

Working closely with the CDO, the SVP of Fundraising will oversee all fundraising initiatives, ensuring a unified and effective strategy to meet the organization’s financial objectives. This position requires a strategic thinker with robust managerial skills, excelling in execution and operational effectiveness.


Key Responsibilities

The Senior Vice President of Fundraising is instrumental in shaping the strategic vision of the development team in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer (CDO). Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and mentoring a team of 12, fostering a culture of collaboration, efficiency, and accountability, while promoting continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement.
  • Establishing and achieving comprehensive annual goals with direct reports, demonstrating accountability and a solutions-oriented mindset to exceed expectations.
  • Managing a personal portfolio of donors with specific financial targets, engaging in direct outreach, solicitation, and stewardship to strengthen donor relationships and achieve annual objectives.
  • Designing and executing innovative fundraising strategies that align with New York Cares' events, initiatives, and programs, while nurturing strong donor relations and advancing equitable fundraising practices in partnership with the CDO.
  • Ensuring the integration of fundraising activities with other New York Cares teams, facilitating seamless cross-functional operations and adherence to the organization’s mission and values.
  • Overseeing the monthly reconciliation process with the finance department, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all development-related communications shared with external stakeholders, including the Board of Directors.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates for the Senior Vice President of Fundraising position will possess:

  • Over 10 years of professional experience in a nonprofit environment, with a proven track record in fundraising, including managing diverse donor relationships and successfully expanding donor bases.
  • A strong commitment to advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, demonstrating the ability to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse workforce while fostering an inclusive environment that respects various perspectives.
  • A flexible and adaptable leadership style, capable of positively influencing both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives, with a keen attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal oversight as well as collaboratively within a team, effectively engaging with individuals across various levels of the organization and externally.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging a broad range of donors and fostering long-term relationships with clarity and persuasion, supported by strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • A professional and resourceful approach, characterized by a proactive attitude and the capacity to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Compensation

The salary range is $135K - $155K and is commensurate with experience. Salary is just one component of New York Cares' total compensation package, which includes generous paid leave, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, access to e-learning courses, tax advantage accounts, and more.
