Position Summary: The Government and Community Relations Division (GovCo) plays a crucial role in aligning the initiatives of NYCEDC with the aspirations and needs of New Yorkers affected by our projects. This position is pivotal in promoting EDC's objectives and ensuring seamless project execution by nurturing external partnerships, crafting public engagement strategies, and garnering political and community backing for EDC's initiatives.

The Vice President for Brooklyn Marine Terminal will oversee activities along the southwest Brooklyn waterfront and throughout EDC's extensive waterfront portfolio. The individual in this role will be tasked with cultivating, sustaining, and coordinating NYCEDC's interactions with federal, state, and local elected officials, government entities, community boards, stakeholders, labor organizations, advocates, private sector partners, and the Mayor's Office of Legislative Affairs. This collaboration is essential for the successful planning and development of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal and the broader Citywide Blue Highway strategy. The Vice President will liaise with project teams including Planning, Asset Management, and Legal to relay stakeholder feedback and devise engagement strategies and messaging, acting as the primary community liaison for NYCEDC's initiatives in the borough. Additionally, the Vice President may contribute to the formulation, execution, and oversight of key strategies vital to NYCEDC's mission, as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams to meet organizational objectives and priorities.
  • Prepare presentations for elected officials, community boards, and other stakeholders, in partnership with project teams; address inquiries regarding projects from officials and stakeholders.
  • Participate in public meetings, maintain relationships with key stakeholders, and work with external consultants to design and implement engagement strategies.
  • Engage regularly with representatives from City Hall, New York State Empire State Development, various city agencies, and the Mayor's Offices of Legislative Affairs to ensure project alignment with NYCEDC's priorities.
  • Ensure timely and sensitive information is communicated appropriately to department leadership and the President's Office.
  • Design and evaluate engagement strategies that incorporate diverse perspectives, acknowledge historical contexts, are data-informed (both qualitative and quantitative), consider digital and non-digital access, and center equity in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Draft written reports/updates on project portfolios, develop newsletter content, and maintain trackers as requested; prepare NYCEDC staff for and participate in hearings before the New York City Council, as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with elected officials, public agencies, campaigns, communications, organizing, and/or community-based organizations.
  • Bachelor's degree required; a Master's Degree in public policy, political science, community planning, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in building coalitions among diverse interest groups.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize competing interests in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel throughout New York City and attend evening and occasional weekend meetings. A driver's license is preferred.
  • Familiarity with New York City and New York State land-use public approval processes is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Residence in New York City is required within a specified timeframe of hire.
Compensation:

Salary Range: $90,000 - $93,000 USD
