Overview
As a key member of our team, you will function as an entry-level juvenile residential officer, providing essential supervision to youths within a 24-hour residential facility.

Role Responsibilities
Your primary duties will include daily supervision of youths in a detention setting, ensuring their health, safety, and welfare in accordance with departmental policies and standards. You will engage in both individual and group counseling sessions to enhance personal responsibility and awareness among the youths.

Crisis Management
In critical situations, you will be expected to make sound judgments and decisions in the absence of a supervisor, documenting any incidents and actions taken. You will also enforce facility rules, documenting behaviors and forwarding relevant information to appropriate personnel.

Support Functions
As a backup to staff, you will assume various responsibilities, including administering medications, transporting youths to appointments, conducting intake assessments, and managing disciplinary actions.

Physical Requirements
It is essential to be physically capable of performing handling techniques, including takedowns and restraining youths, as mandated by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

Facility Management
Your role will involve conducting inspections, rounds, and drills, which include room checks and physical searches of youths. You will also coordinate and provide daily educational and recreational programs and activities.

Qualifications
To qualify, you must have graduated from an accredited high school or completed a GED program. A minimum of three years of relevant work experience or 45 hours of college coursework in a related field is required, or a combination of both.

Communication Skills
You should possess strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.

Certifications
First Aid/CPR Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire, along with any required certifications within six months of employment. A valid driver's license with a good driving record is also necessary.

Additional Requirements
All candidates must pass an extensive background investigation and are subject to mandatory drug testing prior to employment, as well as random testing during employment. The position may require shift changes and working in a 24-hour facility, which could include mandatory overtime.

Work Environment
This role involves working with juveniles who may have exhibited aggressive behaviors, necessitating a high tolerance for emotionally demanding situations. Employees may be transferred to different departments or shifts based on operational needs.
