General Function:

The Indigenous Pathways Program Support Specialist plays a crucial role in guiding participants of the Native Pathways Program (NPP), ensuring a meaningful experience for both children and their families. This position emphasizes the NPP mission, which is centered around fostering strong communities through connection. The Specialist will cultivate positive, supportive relationships with Native American youth while also engaging effectively with parents and elders.

Under the supervision of the Community Development Manager, the Program Support Specialist will assist the NPP Education Coordinators with daily operations related to program activities and events. This role is not full-time and will be filled on an as-needed basis for special events and projects.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the Indigenous Pathways Program Support Specialist must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with youth, parents, and staff, both verbally and in writing. Essential skills include strong organizational abilities and the capacity to maintain focus in dynamic environments. The candidate should interact with a diverse range of individuals with professionalism and respect.

Additional requirements include:

  • Experience in youth programs, recreational activities, or related fields.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications, along with training in Cultural Sensitivity and Child Abuse Prevention within 30 days of hire.
  • Capability to implement age-appropriate and developmentally suitable program activities.
  • A positive demeanor and a genuine passion for working with youth.
  • Patience and energy when engaging with NPP participants, alongside the ability to enforce rules and procedures.
  • Skill in building positive relationships with individuals from Native American backgrounds.

Physical Requirements:

The candidate must be able to:

  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Communicate verbally with clear voice projection.
  • Perform various tasks outdoors in different weather conditions.
  • Maintain up-to-date immunizations.

Key Responsibilities:

The Specialist will prioritize the safety of all participants, ensuring awareness of their whereabouts during all activities, including early arrivals, trips, and events. Responsibilities include:

  • Understanding and enforcing NPP rules and safety protocols.
  • Modeling positive behaviors in punctuality, respect, and care for facilities.
  • Supervising children during various activities, including arts, music, and outdoor games.
  • Creating an enjoyable atmosphere that encourages participation and fosters positive social interactions.
  • Responding appropriately to emergencies during NPP events.
  • Maintaining constructive relationships with parents and staff.
  • Ensuring all equipment is well-maintained and returned to its designated place.
  • Keeping accurate program records and attending necessary meetings and training sessions.
  • Assisting in the upkeep and cleanliness of assigned areas.
  • Reporting any unusual situations to the NPP Education Coordinators or Community Development Manager.
  • Carrying out other duties as assigned.
