Unit Description

The Clinical Decision Unit is a dynamic 11-bed observation area dedicated to providing care for acutely ill patients. The unit addresses a variety of complications, including respiratory distress, trauma, minor cardiac issues, surgical recovery, and gastrointestinal conditions. Additionally, the unit is responsible for procedural recovery, OPP blood transfusions, and IV antibiotic administration.

Job Responsibilities

The RN Clinical Nurse I delivers professional nursing care through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in alignment with facility or departmental policies and protocols under the guidance of the nursing leadership. The nurse contributes to maintaining a safe working environment and executes all job responsibilities safely while ensuring clinical and professional competency relevant to the patient population served.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather data relevant to the healthcare consumer's health status or situation. Analyze assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Establish expected outcomes for a personalized care plan tailored to the healthcare consumer or situation.
  • Formulate a plan that outlines strategies to achieve expected, measurable outcomes.
  • Execute the identified plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to promote health and ensure a safe environment.
  • Delegate care responsibilities to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
  • Assess progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
  • Practice in a manner that respects cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Communicate effectively across all areas of practice.
  • Collaborate with healthcare consumers and other key stakeholders in nursing practice.
  • Exhibit leadership within the professional practice setting and the nursing profession.
  • Incorporate evidence and research findings into clinical practice.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of quality nursing practices.
  • Evaluate personal and peer nursing practices against professional standards and guidelines, relevant laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Utilize appropriate resources to plan, deliver, and maintain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible.
  • Practice in an environmentally safe and healthy manner.
  • Uphold ethical standards in nursing practice.
  • Encourage shared governance and facility decision-making processes, fostering research to positively influence clinical outcomes and professional growth.

Physical Requirements
This role requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds when handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies is essential. Proficiency in English communication is required. Candidates must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking and the ability to concentrate are necessary, as is the capacity to respond swiftly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions. Physical Abilities Testing is mandatory.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Current Basic Life Support certification is required as per policy guidelines. A valid RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is necessary, or for those declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as their primary state of residency, compliance with licensure requirements in their home state is required; for Non-National License Compact states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner is mandatory in the state where the RN practices.
