About the Clinical Decision Unit

This dynamic 11-bed observation unit provides care for patients with acute illnesses. Common admissions may include respiratory distress, trauma, minor cardiac issues, surgical recovery, and gastrointestinal disorders. The unit also facilitates procedural recovery, OPP blood transfusions, and IV antibiotic treatments.

Job Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse delivers professional nursing care through thorough assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation, adhering to established policies and procedures under the guidance of supervisory staff. The nurse is responsible for ensuring a safe work environment and performing all job-related tasks safely. Maintaining clinical and professional competency is essential, tailored to the age, culture, developmental stages, and specific needs of the patients served.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather data relevant to the healthcare consumer's health or situation.
  • Evaluate assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Establish expected outcomes for a personalized care plan.
  • Create a plan that outlines strategies to achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Execute the identified plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to promote health and safety.

  • Delegate care elements to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with legal and policy guidelines.

Physical Requirements
This role involves walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Candidates must be able to lift and support weights of up to 35 pounds when handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English is required for effective communication. Candidates should possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking and the ability to concentrate are essential, as is the capacity to respond swiftly to changes in patient or unit conditions. Physical Abilities Testing may be required, and additional department-specific physical requirements may be established by department leadership.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required; a BSN is preferred. BLS certification is mandatory per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is required. For those declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as their primary residence, compliance with licensure requirements in their home state is necessary. For non-NLC states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner is required in the state of employment. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be mandated by the department manager.
