Role Summary
The Registered Nurse delivers expert nursing care through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, execution, and evaluation, adhering to established policies and procedures under the guidance of supervisory personnel. This role is crucial in ensuring a secure work environment while fulfilling all job responsibilities safely. The nurse maintains clinical and professional proficiency tailored to the age, culture, developmental stages, and unique needs of the patients served.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather relevant data concerning the health of the healthcare consumer or the specific situation.
- Evaluate the assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, issues, and challenges.
- Determine expected outcomes for a personalized care plan for the healthcare consumer or the situation.
- Create a strategy that outlines methods to achieve expected, measurable outcomes.
- Execute the established plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to promote health and ensure a safe environment.
- Assess progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
- Practice in alignment with principles of cultural diversity and inclusion.
- Delegate care tasks to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
- Encourage shared governance and facility decision-making initiatives, fostering research to enhance clinical outcomes.
- Maintain knowledge and skills that reflect contemporary nursing practices.
- Incorporate evidence and research findings into nursing practice.
- Contribute to the advancement of quality nursing practices.

Physical Demands
This role requires mobility including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is essential. The nurse must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking and the ability to concentrate are vital. Quick responsiveness to changes in patient and/or unit conditions is required. Physical Abilities Testing may be necessary. Additional department-specific physical requirements may be established by department leadership.
Qualifications
A graduate from an accredited School of Nursing is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is mandatory; if declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as the primary state of residency, the nurse must meet the licensure requirements of their home state. For non-NLC states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner is required in the state of practice. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be mandated within the department by the department manager.
