Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care through thorough assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation, in alignment with service line protocols. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring a safe working environment and executing all job responsibilities with safety as a priority. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will maintain clinical and professional competence tailored to the age, culture, developmental stages, and unique needs of the patients served.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather relevant data concerning the health of the healthcare consumer or the situation.
- Evaluate the assessment data to establish diagnoses or issues.
- Determine expected outcomes for a personalized care plan for the healthcare consumer or the situation.
- Create a plan that outlines strategies and alternatives to achieve the expected outcomes.
- Execute the established plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to foster health and ensure a safe environment.
- Assess progress towards achieving the expected outcomes.
- Delegate aspects of care to suitable healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
This position requires the ability to walk, stand, sit, lift, reach, stoop, bend, push, and pull. Candidates must be capable of lifting and supporting weights of up to 35 pounds while handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is essential. Candidates should possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking skills and the ability to focus are necessary, as is the capacity to respond swiftly to changes in patient or unit conditions. Physical abilities testing may be required. Additional department-specific physical requirements may be identified by the nurse leader.
Education, Experience, and Certifications
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required, with a BSN preferred. BLS certification is mandatory per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of employment is required. For those declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as their primary state of residency, compliance with licensure requirements in the home state is necessary. For Non-National License Compact states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner is required in the state of practice. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be mandated within the department by the nurse leader.
