Job Responsibilities
The Clinical Nurse Specialist delivers expert nursing care through thorough assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, execution, and evaluation in alignment with service line protocols. This role is essential in ensuring a secure work environment and executing all job functions safely. The nurse maintains clinical and professional proficiency tailored to the age, culture, developmental stages, and specific needs of the patients served.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather relevant data regarding the health of the patient or the situation.
- Evaluate the assessment data to establish diagnoses or issues.
- Determine expected outcomes for a personalized care plan.
- Create a plan that outlines strategies and alternatives to achieve expected outcomes.
- Execute the established plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to promote health and safety.
- Assess progress towards achieving outcomes.
- Delegate aspects of care to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
Physical Demands
This position requires mobility, including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is required. Candidates must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking skills and the ability to focus are essential. Quick responses to changes in patient and/or unit conditions are required. Physical abilities testing may be necessary. Additional specific physical requirements may be outlined by the nurse leader for unique departmental responsibilities.
Qualifications
Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is necessary. For those declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as their primary residency, licensure requirements in the home state must be met. For non-NLC states, a current RN license or temporary license is required in the state of employment. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be mandated within the department by the nurse leader.
