Unit Description

The Clinical Decision Unit is a dynamic 11-bed observation area dedicated to providing care for patients with acute illnesses. Common admissions may include respiratory issues, trauma, minor cardiac concerns, surgical interventions such as percutaneous coronary procedures, and gastrointestinal disorders. This unit also facilitates procedural recovery and administers OPP blood transfusions and IV antibiotic treatments.

Job Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse delivers professional nursing care through proficient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation, adhering to established policies and procedures under the guidance of the supervisor and manager. The nurse plays a vital role in maintaining a safe working environment and executing all job-related responsibilities safely. Continuous clinical and professional competency is maintained, tailored to the age, culture, developmental stages, and specific needs of the patients served.

Physical Requirements
This role requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is required. Candidates must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking skills and the ability to concentrate are essential. Quick responses to changes in patient and/or unit conditions are necessary. Physical Abilities Testing may be required. Additional department-specific physical requirements may be outlined by the department leader.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

A graduate from an accredited School of Nursing is required; a BSN is preferred. BLS certification is mandatory per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of employment is required. For those declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as their primary state of residency, compliance with licensure requirements in the home state is necessary. For non-National License Compact states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner is required in the state of practice. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be mandated within the department by the department manager.
