About the Clinical Decision Unit

This dynamic 11-bed observation unit provides care for patients experiencing acute illnesses. Common admissions may include respiratory distress, trauma, minor cardiac issues, surgical recovery, and gastrointestinal conditions. The unit also supports procedural recovery and administers OPP blood transfusions and IV antibiotic treatments.

Role Summary

The Registered Nurse delivers professional nursing care through proficient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation, adhering to established policies and procedures under the guidance of supervisory staff. The nurse plays a vital role in maintaining a safe work environment and executing all job responsibilities safely. Continuous clinical and professional competency is maintained, tailored to the age, culture, developmental stages, and unique needs of the patients served.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather data relevant to the healthcare consumer's health or situation.
  • Evaluate assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Establish expected outcomes for a personalized care plan.
  • Formulate a plan that outlines strategies to achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Execute the identified plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to promote health and safety.
  • Assess progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
  • Practice in alignment with principles of cultural diversity and inclusion.
  • Delegate care elements to appropriate healthcare personnel following legal and policy guidelines.
  • Encourage shared governance and participate in decision-making activities, fostering research to enhance clinical outcomes.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills that reflect current nursing practices.
  • Incorporate evidence and research findings into nursing practice.

Physical Requirements
This role requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is required. Candidates must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking and the ability to concentrate are essential, as is the capacity to respond swiftly to changes in patient and unit conditions. Physical Abilities Testing may be required. Additional specific physical requirements may be determined by departmental leadership.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

A graduate from an accredited School of Nursing is required; a BSN is preferred. BLS certification is mandatory per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the relevant state is required. For those declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as their primary residence, compliance with home state licensure requirements is necessary. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be mandated by departmental management.
