About the Clinical Decision Unit

This is a dynamic 11-bed observation unit dedicated to providing care for acutely ill patients. The unit manages a variety of complications, including respiratory issues, trauma, minor cardiac conditions, surgical interventions such as percutaneous coronary procedures, and gastrointestinal disorders. Additionally, the unit is responsible for procedural recovery, OPP blood transfusions, and IV antibiotic administration.

Job Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse delivers professional nursing care through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in line with established policies and procedures under the guidance of supervisory staff. The nurse plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe work environment and executes all job responsibilities safely. Continuous clinical and professional competency is essential, tailored to the age, culture, developmental stages, and specific needs of the patients served.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather data relevant to the health status of the patient or the situation.
  • Evaluate assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Establish expected outcomes for a tailored care plan.
  • Formulate a plan that outlines strategies to achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Execute the identified plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to promote health and ensure a safe environment.
  • Assess progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
  • Practice in a manner that respects cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Delegate care responsibilities to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
  • Encourage shared governance and participate in decision-making activities that enhance clinical outcomes.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills that reflect current nursing practices.
  • Incorporate evidence and research findings into nursing practice.
  • Contribute to the advancement of quality nursing practice.

Physical Requirements
This role involves walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support weights of up to 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is required. The role demands intact sensory functions including sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity and critical thinking abilities. The nurse must be capable of responding swiftly to changes in patient and unit conditions. Physical Abilities Testing may be required, and additional department-specific physical requirements may be established by the department leader.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

A graduate from an accredited School of Nursing is required; a BSN is preferred. BLS certification is mandatory as per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of employment is necessary. For those declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as their primary residence, compliance with licensure requirements in their home state is essential. For non-NLC states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner is required in the state of practice. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be mandated by the department manager.
