Position Overview

As a Lead Systems Engineer, you will primarily engage in iGov's Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) integration initiatives. In this role, you will be a pivotal technology leader, collaborating closely with a dedicated engineering team to devise solutions that facilitate computing and communication capabilities across various environments, including tactical, portable, and data center settings. Additionally, you will act as an engineering consultant to the Chief Engineer and Program Manager on all system engineering aspects.

This role demands a skilled individual adept at troubleshooting complex hardware and software challenges. You will possess extensive experience in designing, configuring, and maintaining TCP/IP networks and devices, encompassing routing, switching, security, and WiFi technologies from diverse vendors such as Cisco, Palo Alto, Juniper, and others. Proficiency in operating systems, including Windows, Windows Server, VMware ESXi, and Linux, is essential. Familiarity with systems security protocols, such as 802.1x and Public Key Infrastructure, is also required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute advanced networking configurations.
  • Design and implement VPN system setups.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for CSfC policies and procedures.
  • Utilize virtualization and virtual networking technologies, including VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Provide technical expertise for systems engineering activities, including configuration management of hardware/software documentation.
  • Support iGov's ISO 9000:2015 policies and procedures.
  • Oversee System Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) activities while adhering to budgetary and scheduling constraints.
  • Conduct high-level systems analysis, evaluation, integration, and implementation of intricate networking solutions.
  • Offer engineering guidance in system specifications, design, integration, testing, and documentation.
  • Create and maintain documentation and schematics of systems, including interface control documents (ICD).
  • Manage obsolescence programs to ensure compatibility of hardware and software components.
  • Review and analyze complex task statements and specifications to derive functional and component-level engineering architecture.
  • Ensure a work environment that upholds standards for ethics, fairness, and safety.
  • Comply with time reporting and conduct timecard approvals.
  • Physical presence is required.
  • Collaborate and support peer engineers.
  • Identify risks and assess their potential impacts on the overall program budget and schedule.
  • Evaluate and recommend new products and solutions in response to requirements.
  • Author and manage technical documentation.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to iGov's Sales and Business Development teams.
  • Timely attendance is a crucial aspect of this role.
  • Perform other systems engineering-related duties as necessary.

Essential Experience & Skills:

  • A minimum of 10 years of overall IT experience, with at least 3 years in designing complex IT systems.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Server Operating Systems and Domain Administration within a Windows Server 2008 or later environment.
  • A minimum of 4 years of virtualization experience in a VMware setting.
  • At least 4 years of networking experience in a Cisco environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with effective root cause identification and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
  • Prior military experience and experience in deploying tactical IT equipment is advantageous.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent active listening and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to articulate messages clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible, capable of working in ambiguous situations.
  • Must possess an active Secret clearance.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • One or more of the following industry-recognized certifications is preferred:
    • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)
    • Cisco CCNP, Aruba ACMP, Juniper JNCIP
    • VMware Certified Associate (VCA)
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); CompTIA Security+; or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Clearance Requirement:

Selected candidates may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. The ideal candidate will possess an active Secret clearance.
