Job Overview

The Lead Electrical Systems Engineer position is essential in the conception, advancement, and upkeep of electrical infrastructures and components, overseeing significant projects. This senior role necessitates the stewardship of extensive initiatives and the guidance of engineering teams. The ideal candidate will merge technical proficiency, leadership capabilities, and analytical skills to devise, execute, and sustain electrical systems, including vehicle avionics, power management subsystems, communication technologies, navigation systems, and advanced imaging technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and evaluate electrical systems and devices for military, industrial, commercial, and consumer applications related to Unmanned Systems (UAVs, UGVs, USVs) across various platforms.
  • Select components and devices based on thorough analysis of specifications and reliability, determining design methodologies and parameters.
  • Engage with avionics, embedded systems (microcontrollers, FPGAs, Single Board Computers, etc.), and Radio Frequency (RF) communications. Provide support for Flight Test operations as required. Develop and maintain electrical control systems, including wiring diagrams and schematics, while analyzing and interpreting technical data to ensure adherence to relevant codes and regulations. Familiarity with military standards concerning reliability and safety is essential.
  • Collaborate with and lead teams of engineers, technicians, and clients to identify and resolve technical challenges and enhance system performance. Plan and supervise the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and devices.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues and offer technical assistance to production personnel as necessary.
  • Direct internal research and development initiatives, facilitating the transition of these projects into production.
  • Establish and execute quality control measures to guarantee product reliability and performance.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in electrical engineering.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Familiarity with common industry protocols (LVDS, I2C, HDMI, UART, SPI, CAN, USB, MIPI).
  • Expertise in circuit design with knowledge of embedded microcontrollers, video processing, battery technologies, motor control systems, and power distribution.
  • Proficient in electrical design software for schematic capture and PCB layout (Altium preferred, Eagle PCB, Autodesk Fusion360, KICAD, etc.).
  • Experience with electrical simulation tools such as LTspice.
  • Knowledge of RF simulation tools like ANSYS HFSS or CST Microwave Studio is advantageous.
  • MCAD skills with Autodesk Fusion360 and/or SolidWorks are beneficial.
  • Familiarity with gas and battery-powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and associated avionics and electronics.
  • Knowledge of embedded processors such as ARM, along with programming skills in C/C++.
  • Testing and debugging capabilities with standard lab equipment including DMMs, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, and Logic Analyzers.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong leadership skills, including team management through software such as Jira.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and capacity to guide a team towards effective technical solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification, such as Professional Engineer (PE), is preferred but not mandatory.
  • 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
