Job Overview

Position Summary

The Senior Control Systems Engineer is responsible for delivering technical expertise and analytical support for the effective management, design, specification, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of systems utilized within the Energy Management System (EMS). This role is critical for ensuring the reliable operation of the transmission system and requires advanced knowledge and practical experience in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate implementation of EMS databases (SCADA, FEP, ICCP) and displays for all existing and new installations.
  • Manage and configure EMS databases, displays, alarms, and real-time calculations to maintain a reliable 24/7 control center.
  • Analyze and resolve complex control system issues involving hardware, software, networks, and communication subsystems.
  • Develop and implement software solutions to enhance decision-making processes in the control room.
  • Conduct thorough validation of field inputs through the SCADA database prior to operational release.
  • Build and update databases for SCADA/EMS applications as needed.
  • Modify configurations to enhance the Quality Assurance System or production environment.
  • Maintain accurate data exchange with neighboring utilities and ensure compliance with operational standards.
  • Oversee and review contractor work for major system projects and enhancements.
  • Verify the accuracy of telemetry and alarms within the EMS.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to incorporate remote data requirements into the EMS/SCADA system.
  • Develop processes to ensure system integrity and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Lead strategic project planning and execution to keep EMS applications current.
  • Assist in the development of operating instructions and compliance documentation.
  • Support the drafting of engineering specifications and bid evaluations for system modernization projects.
  • Implement software development life cycle practices.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for EMS systems and databases.
  • Participate in acceptance testing of real-time control systems.
  • Support EMS training and simulation environments.
  • Identify trends and root causes of issues, proposing solutions for management consideration.
  • Fulfill compliance program roles as designated, ensuring audit readiness.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution is required. A minimum of eight years of relevant experience in an EMS environment is essential. Professional Engineer registration in Florida is preferred but not mandatory.

Physical Requirements

Working Conditions

This position may require travel and work outside of standard business hours. Exposure to industrial hazards may occur while working in specific areas. The role necessitates maintaining critical EMS equipment in a real-time environment, requiring on-call support.
