Lead Electrical Systems Engineer

Under general supervision, this role is accountable for engineering functions related to Electrical and Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineering. The incumbent will operate autonomously with limited oversight, applying expertise in electrical and I&C engineering principles. This position may also involve mentoring other team members to ensure the delivery of high-quality, timely, and cost-efficient engineering solutions to complex technical challenges.
Qualifications and Educational Background
A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is mandatory. An advanced degree in engineering is preferred. A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in large-scale power generation facilities (or equivalent training and education) is required, focusing on the construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation and control systems. Experience should encompass the formulation of technical specifications, economic assessments, evaluations, and intricate technical issues. Practical knowledge of complex distributed control systems (DCS) is essential. Familiarity with NERC standards and procedures is advantageous. Professional Engineer registration in Florida or an advanced degree in engineering may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

- Provide technical guidance and consultation to identify and resolve equipment and system issues.
- Assist in formulating procedures, enhancing design recommendations, and evaluating new equipment purchases.
- Prepare and review design modifications and calculations in compliance with applicable standards and procedures.
- Lead the creation of technical specifications, pricing documents, bidder lists, bid evaluation criteria, and project cost estimates for process systems, equipment, or maintenance projects.
- Collaborate with technical teams and/or Engineering Supervisors to analyze complex operational or maintenance challenges, leading to design alterations, alternative equipment selection, or revised operational practices. Make recommendations based on analytical findings.
- Engage with other departments (e.g., Operations, Maintenance) and leadership regarding plant issues and improvement initiatives.
- Support outages, urgent issues, and generation challenges, which may necessitate shift work or off-hours availability.
- Exhibit ownership of assigned systems/components and advocate for performance enhancement opportunities.
- Conduct analyses of control systems, instrumentation, and electrical equipment failures to identify root causes and preventive measures.
- Develop and implement monitoring and trending plans for assigned systems/components to ensure safe and reliable equipment performance.
- Assist DCS Administrators in troubleshooting and recommend modifications to DCS systems.
- Coordinate activities of external consultants as required.
- Adopt a proactive stance on personal safety and the safety of others, adhering to all safety regulations and protocols.
- Take a proactive approach to environmental regulations governing plant operations, ensuring compliance and reporting any environmental incidents.
- Fulfill NERC Compliance Program responsibilities as designated, maintaining audit-ready documentation as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or applicable to the position.
Must be capable of accessing all areas of the plant and grounds, including climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Adherence to established safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), is essential. A valid driver's license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report are required.
Working Environment
This position may involve travel and work outside standard business hours. Certain areas of the plant may expose the employee to typical industrial hazards.
