Position Summary

The Senior Engineer plays a crucial role in delivering technical expertise and analytical support for the management, design, and configuration of systems within the Energy Management System (EMS). This position demands advanced knowledge and practical experience in ensuring the reliable operation of the transmission system. Responsibilities encompass a variety of EMS support tasks, including troubleshooting, SCADA data maintenance, and the development of complex algorithms and maintenance scripts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate implementation of EMS databases and displays for all field installations, collaborating with technicians and engineers.
  • Manage and configure EMS databases and real-time calculations to maintain a reliable control center.
  • Analyze and resolve intricate control system issues involving hardware, software, and communication subsystems.
  • Develop code to enhance decision-making processes in the control room, working closely with operators.
  • Validate field telemetry inputs through the SCADA database, ensuring accuracy before operational release.
  • Update and configure databases for SCADA/EMS applications, adapting to evolving operational needs.
  • Oversee contractor work for major system projects, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate remote data requirements into the EMS/SCADA system.
  • Establish processes to maintain system integrity and compliance with industry standards.
  • Lead strategic project planning to keep EMS applications aligned with regulatory standards.
  • Assist in drafting engineering specifications and evaluating bids for modernization projects.
  • Implement software development life cycle (SDLF) methodologies.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for EMS systems, including on-call responsibilities.
  • Participate in acceptance testing of real-time control systems.
  • Support EMS training and simulation environments.
  • Identify trends and root causes of issues, proposing solutions for management review.
  • Fulfill compliance program roles as designated, maintaining audit-ready documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution is required. A minimum of eight years of relevant experience in an EMS environment is essential. Professional Engineer registration in Florida is preferred but not mandatory.
