Position Overview:
We are seeking a seasoned Traffic Systems Engineer to join our expanding Transportation Practice, specifically to support our operations in Florida. In this senior role, you will spearhead projects and lead teams on innovative assignments such as adaptive signal systems, cutting-edge intersections and interchanges, TSMO/ATMS, managed lanes, and comprehensive street initiatives aimed at enhancing mobility across all transportation modes. Key Responsibilities:
Our Traffic Department engages in high-profile and intricate projects for state and local transportation agencies across North America, with a focus on the eastern United States. The work we undertake is both challenging and at the forefront of traffic engineering applications in the industry. As a senior traffic engineer, you will oversee a diverse range of analysis, modeling, design, and planning tasks. Project assignments may vary from minor intersection enhancements to complex interchange and corridor developments, as well as innovative multimodal transportation strategies. Your responsibilities may include:
  • Conducting traffic safety and operations studies.
  • Utilizing and applying traffic modeling software such as Synchro, SimTraffic, TransModeler, VISSIM, and VISUM.
  • Designing traffic control devices, including signals, signage, pavement markings, and lighting.
  • Implementing work zone traffic control measures.
  • Engaging in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) projects.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A valid Professional Engineer license.
  • Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) is advantageous.
  • Over 10 years of progressive experience in traffic and/or ITS engineering.
  • Familiarity with traffic guidelines such as AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, and Highway Safety Manual.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Experience with traffic modeling tools, including HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, TransModeler, VISSIM, and VISUM.
  • Expertise in designing traffic control devices and work zone traffic management.
  • Experience with ITS and CAV initiatives.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Exceptional communication, technical writing, and organizational abilities.
  • A positive attitude and a collaborative spirit.
  • The capacity to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience in proposal development for new projects.
  • Project and contract management experience.
  • A track record of mentoring junior engineers and support staff.
  • Experience working with transportation departments is a plus.
