Job Overview

Position Summary

The Senior Engineer is responsible for delivering technical expertise and analytical support with minimal oversight for the management, design, specification, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of systems and processes utilized within the Energy Management System (EMS). This role is critical for ensuring the dependable operation of the transmission system and involves the application of advanced methodologies and practical field experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate implementation of EMS databases (SCADA, FEP, ICCP) and displays for all current and new field installations, collaborating with operations technicians and engineers.
  • Configure and oversee EMS databases, displays, alarms, and real-time calculations to enhance situational awareness and support a reliable 24/7 control center.
  • Analyze and resolve intricate control system challenges that may encompass hardware, software, networks, and communication subsystems.
  • Develop and implement software solutions to optimize decision-making processes in the control room, working closely with operators and engineers to maintain grid reliability.
  • Conduct thorough validation of field telemetry inputs through the SCADA database and ensure operational displays are accurate prior to deployment.
  • Manage the configuration and updates of databases for SCADA/EMS applications.
  • Modify configurations within the Quality Assurance System or production environment as necessary.
  • Update EMS Application databases to accurately reflect electrical parameters and maintain timely data exchange with neighboring utilities.
  • Oversee and evaluate the work of contractors engaged in significant system projects and enhancements.
  • Verify the accuracy of field telemetry and alarms, ensuring correct representation in the EMS.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate remote data requirements for capital and system improvement projects into the EMS/SCADA system.
  • Establish and implement processes in line with departmental Operating Instructions to ensure system integrity and compliance with industry standards.
  • Lead strategic project planning and execution to keep EMS and reliability applications aligned with industry standards.
  • Assist in the formulation and review of Operating Instructions and Practices to uphold compliance with industry regulations.
  • Support the drafting of engineering specifications and evaluation of bids for modernization projects.
  • Understand and apply the software development life cycle in project execution.
  • Lead troubleshooting initiatives for EMS systems and databases, including on-call support.
  • Participate in acceptance testing of real-time control systems.
  • Support EMS training and simulation environments.
  • Identify trends and root causes of issues, providing solutions and recommendations for management consideration.
  • Fulfill designated roles within the compliance program, ensuring readiness for audits.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required. A minimum of eight years of relevant experience in an EMS environment is essential. Professional Engineer registration in Florida is preferred but not mandatory.

Physical Requirements

Must adhere to established safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). A valid driver's license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report are required.

Working Conditions

Some travel and work outside standard business hours may be necessary. The role may involve exposure to industrial hazards while maintaining critical EMS equipment in a real-time environment, requiring 24/7 on-call support.
