Employment Type: Full-time, exempt position

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, hybrid model requiring a combination of remote and on-site work.

Compensation: Starting salary is $70,000, with potential for negotiation based on qualifications.

Role Description: We are seeking a proficient and seasoned Senior Paralegal to enhance our legal team. The ideal candidate will possess substantial knowledge in immigration law and demonstrate a history of effectively managing deadlines in a high-pressure setting. This position involves delivering direct immigration assistance to our members and the broader immigrant community, focusing on African immigrants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver immigration legal services to community members while adhering to grant and contract stipulations.
  • Gather and organize client data for grant reporting, collaborating with the Legal Director on submissions.
  • Conduct eligibility assessments for prospective clients seeking immigration relief.
  • Coordinate with clients to obtain necessary documentation promptly.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients regarding their cases and requirements.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents related to immigration matters for submission to relevant authorities.
  • Engage with government agencies regarding case inquiries and updates.
  • Oversee junior paralegals and interns, ensuring effective workflow and guidance.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including managing communications and scheduling.
  • Organize and maintain both physical and digital client files and documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions focused on legal services.
  • Refer clients to appropriate organizations for additional support as needed.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations to ensure comprehensive legal services.
  • Help coordinate community outreach initiatives, including legal clinics and informational sessions.
  • Provide interpretation services when necessary.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Paralegal or legal assistant in a law firm or non-profit setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in legal studies or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in standard office software and tools.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.
  • Fluency in French or a widely spoken African language is highly desirable.
