DESCRIPTION

Position Overview

The City of Torrance is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Deputy City Clerk III within the Office of the City Clerk. This pivotal role involves overseeing the daily functions of the City Clerk's Office, ensuring efficient operations and compliance with municipal regulations.

Department Insights
The Office of the City Clerk serves as a vital service department, providing essential information and support to the City Council, various City departments, and the public. Responsibilities include maintaining official City records, facilitating elections, preparing City Council agendas, and managing municipal codes and charters.

Key Responsibilities
The Deputy City Clerk III will:
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the City Clerk's Office.
  • Manage staff engaged in record maintenance, election processes, and public information dissemination.
  • Collaborate with other City Departments and external agencies.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the City Clerk and City Council.
  • Exercise signatory authority in the absence of the City Clerk.

Qualifications
Applicants should possess a combination of education and experience that equips them with the necessary skills for this role. A typical qualification pathway includes:
  • A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in professional administrative support within a public agency, including supervisory experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Certification as a Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) is preferred.
