Senior Vice President of Membership and Development Operations

NRDC is seeking a Senior Vice President of Membership and Development Operations to lead the strategy and management of three Development teams: Membership & Planned Giving; Donor Relations; and Donor Systems. This role reports to the Chief Development Officer and is responsible for creating and advancing a long-term strategy for growth of direct response and planned giving fundraising while ensuring that staff on each team are successful, ethical, and effective.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Membership and Development Operations teams, including strategic planning, people management, and administration.
- Develop and execute on increasingly sophisticated and effective public fundraising, planned giving, and operational strategies.
- Ensure that each team is developing and executing on robust work plans to achieve outcomes and sets high performance expectations.
- Oversee and have ultimate responsibility for management of the team budget, aiming to make the most strategic and effective use of department funds.
- Develop and maintain organizational data for reporting and analysis with the IT team.
- Liaise with NRDC's IT department, external consultants, and vendors supporting the donor database and other tools utilized and maintained by the Department.
- Develop, disseminate, and document policies, procedures, and data solutions that support end-user needs, both within the Development department and as it relates to cross-departmental compliance.
Requirements
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in increasingly responsible positions in development and nonprofit management.
- A minimum of five years of experience in a similar management role leading large development programs and teams.
- Prior capital and comprehensive campaign experience is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree required. Master's in business, non-profit management, or public administration or related degree preferred.
- Proven ability to manage large teams of people, large-scale projects, and relationships in a complex organizational structure.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to effectively manage and lead a diverse team with emotional intelligence and cultural humility.
- Ability to give and receive regular formal and informal feedback in a timely, constructive, respectful, and consistent manner.
- Commitment to and experience in developing team skills and talents to meet the evolving needs of an organization.
- Demonstrated skills with applying technological solutions in a Development setting, including CRM and business intelligence tools.
- Strong operational skills, ability to see opportunities for better program integration and effectiveness.
- Expertise in building and growing low dollar donor/membership programs.
- Planned giving and non-cash asset giving experience.
- Superior written and oral communications, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Entrepreneurial approach to building fundraising and development programs.
- Highly sophisticated relationship building skills.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively.
