ENVIRONMENTAL RECOVERY SPECIALIST
POSITION SUMMARY
Environmental Recovery Specialists are tasked with executing activities related to salvage operations, hazardous material clean-up, site restoration, equipment decontamination, and the management of hazardous substances.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is essential.
- Must fulfill all physical requirements as per company standards.
- Possession of a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is necessary.
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English is required.
- Experience in operating heavy machinery is advantageous.
- Completion of confined space entry (CSE) and 40 Hour OSHA Training is required.
- A background score of 02 or lower is needed for site access.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prioritize Health and Safety by adhering to policies and processes while maintaining a safe working environment.
- Engage in physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving heavy items.
- Operate both light and heavy machinery, such as pumps, vacuums, oil spill booms, generators, and bobcats.
- Conduct emergency response operations for incidents including marine and oil spills, biological contamination, tank cleaning, and equipment decontamination.
- Work in environments that may expose personnel to various chemical and physical hazards.
- Perform tasks in areas with high noise levels and confined spaces, including lifting in low-clearance zones.
- Work at heights, utilizing ladders and scaffolding.
- Complete necessary documentation, including daily logs, vehicle and equipment inspections, and Health and Safety compliance reports.
- Respond promptly when on-call, ensuring shift coverage and notifying supervisors of replacements.
- Conduct inspections of vehicles and equipment, ensuring proper functionality and reporting any issues to supervisors.
- Maintain compliance with Health & Safety regulations at all times.
- Utilize various levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including respirators and protective clothing.
- Climb ladders and access trucks, tanks, and other containers as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management based on business needs.
WORK SCHEDULE
The typical work schedule for an Environmental Recovery Specialist is Monday to Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM, including a 45-minute lunch break. Extended hours may be required, especially during emergency response situations, which can last from 8 to 24 hours. Candidates must be available for on-call duties 24/7, including weekends and holidays.

While performing job duties, employees are frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands for handling tools, reach with arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. The ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally is required. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Employees may encounter moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
