Essential Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related discipline, coupled with a minimum of three years of experience in a design-focused architectural position emphasizing spatial organization.

Position Overview:
The Space Planning Specialist operates under the direct supervision of a Facilities Planning Program Director or a Senior Facilities Planner.

The primary objective of this role is to support the programming and planning of healthcare, workplace, academic, and laboratory/research initiatives across various UTMB locations.


Key Responsibilities:
Assists in gathering and evaluating pertinent data as part of the scenario planning and programming process.

Conducts space assessments to analyze space utilization for specific departments or to verify existing conditions of a facility.

Collaborates with project teams, end-users, stakeholders, and external consultants to establish the project scope during the Project Definition phase.

Participates in identifying project requirements and relevant codes by engaging with end-users and collaborating with colleagues in Environmental Health & Safety.

Contributes to the development of test fits and pricing plans that outline construction/renovation scope and associated project needs, including personnel relocations, project phasing, furniture, fixtures & equipment (FF&E), artwork, signage, and audiovisual/information technology (AV/IT). Assists in managing, tracking, and evaluating solutions for internal Real Estate, Space, and Capital Requests.

Supports the Design & Construction Project Managers in executing approved projects by attending project meetings and participating in drawing reviews throughout the Design Development phase.

Engages in ongoing professional development and related activities to remain informed about industry standards and benchmarks.



Skills and Competencies:
The ideal candidate is self-driven with a strong enthusiasm for spatial planning and design.
Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication abilities.
Strong problem-solving skills, interpersonal abilities, and capacity to interact effectively with clients.
Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail are crucial.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Familiarity with SketchUp, Archibus, and EDMS is advantageous.

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience in facilities planning within an academic medical center. Registered Architect in the State of Texas.

Compensation Range:
The starting salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Work Schedule:
Partial remote work with onsite presence as necessary. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with occasional requirements outside of these hours.
