POSITION SUMMARY

The Marine Equipment Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the upkeep and servicing of dredging machinery and associated facilities in a secure and efficient manner. Responsibilities may also encompass assisting with deck operations, procuring parts, and performing general maintenance tasks.

This role operates under the direct oversight of the Chief Engineer.

In terms of equipment management, this position collaborates with the Technical Manager, who oversees the repair and maintenance strategy for all machinery, inventory management, procurement of supplies, and reporting obligations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all dredging and auxiliary equipment is maintained in optimal working condition according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Guarantee that repairs are executed promptly.
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance and repairs.
  • Manage the inventory of spare components.
  • Request necessary spare parts and supplies.
  • Monitor and report on consumables each shift (fuel, lubricants, water, etc.).
  • Oversee all mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on the dredge and supporting equipment.
  • Carry out additional related tasks as assigned.
  • Engage in Safety and Environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with regulations and enhance existing company programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate must possess:

  • Experience in heavy equipment maintenance within a marine setting.
  • Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and preventive maintenance abilities.
  • Willingness to work at remote project sites for extended periods.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Reliability and self-motivation.
  • Capability to obtain necessary credentials.
  • Strong teamwork and results-oriented mindset.

PREFERRED SKILLS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. The individual should also be capable of wearing and properly using required personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas. This includes hard hats, safety glasses, life vests, respirators, ear protection, steel-toed footwear, and other necessary safety gear.

Additionally, a Marine Equipment Maintenance Specialist must be able to:

  • Navigate varying heights and access points across the job site.
  • Engage in physical activities such as standing, bending, and climbing for extended periods.
  • Perform repetitive movements involving limbs and back.
  • Lift and carry up to 30 lbs independently; for weights exceeding 30 lbs, mechanical assistance is required.
  • Exert peak force of 150 lbs for pushing and pulling tasks.
  • Climb stairs and ladders exceeding 6 ft in height.
  • Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights.
  • Adapt to changing temperatures and outdoor conditions, including exposure to dust, moisture, noise, and vibration.
