The Patient Services Specialist II possesses advanced skills in patient services and is adept at independently ensuring a positive patient experience. This role involves consistently surpassing expectations in customer service and patient care, coordinating clerical and medical activities within a healthcare team, managing patient registration processes, and facilitating access to UTMB services for both new and returning patients.
Key Responsibilities:- Act as a team leader, providing guidance and support to peers.
- Effectively triage and resolve issues that arise.
- Understand clinic operations to optimize patient flow and service delivery.
- Deliver exceptional customer service in all interactions with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Maintain professional and knowledgeable communication with patients, physicians, and referral sources.
- Ensure accurate and efficient handling of incoming calls, addressing caller needs promptly.
- Document and triage calls appropriately to enhance patient satisfaction and safety.
- Serve as a patient advocate, collaborating with various departments to achieve shared objectives.
- Uphold patient confidentiality regarding sensitive information across all communication channels.
- Address patient concerns, implement service recovery strategies, and escalate issues as necessary.
- Apply clinical policies to effectively schedule appointments.
- Coordinate financial counseling for surgical procedures.
- Conduct reminder calls to patients regarding their appointments.
- Educate patients and their families about the billing process and financial responsibilities.
- Provide cost estimates for out-of-pocket expenses to patients.
- Assist patients with inquiries related to unpaid bills.
- Facilitate future appointments during patient visits for follow-ups and ancillary services.
- Prepare patient paperwork and charts for visits efficiently.
- Accurately process all financial transactions and maintain proper documentation.
- Verify patient eligibility and pre-register patients by collecting necessary demographic and insurance information.
- Document information required for third-party reimbursements and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare staff regarding access or authorization challenges.
- Perform additional duties as required to support the team.
- Stay informed about relevant communications and announcements related to job responsibilities.
- Complete annual competency-based training and assessments successfully.
- Prioritize and execute all tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Adhere to internal controls established for the department.
- Secure confidential information and ensure proper disposal of sensitive materials.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the goals of the department.
Salary will be commensurate with experience or as discussed and approved by the hiring authority.
Work Schedule:
This position requires on-site work, Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM, with occasional additional hours as needed.
