POSITION SUMMARY
The Marine Equipment Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the upkeep and repair of dredging machinery and associated facilities, ensuring operations are conducted safely and efficiently. This role may also involve supporting deck operations, sourcing parts, and performing general maintenance tasks.
This position operates under the guidance of the Chief Engineer and collaborates with the Technical Manager regarding equipment maintenance and repair protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain all dredging and auxiliary equipment in optimal working condition according to manufacturer specifications.
- Ensure that repairs are executed promptly and efficiently.
- Document all repair activities and maintain accurate records.
- Manage inventory of spare parts and supplies.
- Request necessary spare parts and materials as needed.
- Track and report on consumable resources each shift (e.g., fuel, lubricants, water).
- Monitor the condition of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on dredging and support equipment.
- Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
- Engage in Safety and Environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with regulations and enhance existing company programs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience in heavy equipment maintenance within a marine context.
- Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and preventative maintenance capabilities.
- Willingness to work at remote project sites for extended periods.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to obtain necessary certifications.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with colleagues and supervisors.
- Competencies in stress management, teamwork, and results orientation.
PREFERRED SKILLS
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must be capable of performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. This includes the ability to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, life vests, and other necessary gear.
Additionally, the Marine Equipment Maintenance Specialist must be able to:
- Navigate various job site locations, including climbing and moving between different heights.
- Stand, bend, twist, and crouch for extended periods.
- Perform repetitive movements with limbs and back during work tasks.
- Lift and carry up to 30 lbs independently; for weights exceeding 30 lbs, mechanical assistance is required.
- Exert peak force of up to 150 lbs when pushing or pulling.
- Climb stairs and vertical ladders exceeding 6 ft in height.
- Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights.
- Adapt to varying temperatures and outdoor conditions, including exposure to dust, moisture, noise, and vibration.
