Job Overview

Position Summary

The Insurance Risk Specialist is tasked with the preparation of underwriting documentation and presentations for various insurance policies, facilitating the placement of specific insurance types, and managing claims reporting. This role also includes reviewing modifications to insurance clauses in vendor and other agreements while aiding in the identification, assessment, and management of risk across the organization, aligning with the corporate risk management strategy.

Key Collaborations

Interactions will occur with G&H personnel, executive leadership, senior client representatives, maritime staff, industry groups, and external vendors.

Core Responsibilities and Required Expertise

  • Engage actively in HSSQE Management System Policies.
  • Provide assistance and respond to inquiries from various departments (Finance, Procurement, Maintenance, Operations, and HR) regarding insurance matters.
  • Coordinate site inspections, risk assessments, and loss adjuster evaluations.
  • Review insurance policy language to ensure compliance with operational, leasing, and lending agreements.
  • Facilitate and oversee site tours and loss adjuster visits.
  • Collaborate with the VP-HSSQE to create and implement loss prevention and safety initiatives at both shore facilities and vessels.
  • Educate and train staff and contractors on the risk management program and their roles within it.
  • Prioritize risk management issues in all activities within their purview.
  • Lead the collection and analysis of renewal data, preparing underwriting submissions and presentations.
  • Report new claims to insurers and manage existing claims to ensure timely resolutions.
  • Review changes to insurance clauses in vendor contracts and assist in the comprehensive risk management process.
  • Examine incident reports with the VP-HSSQE and coordinate claim reporting accordingly.
  • Review monthly budget adjustments and support annual budget initiatives.
  • Support the policies and programs of G&H's Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System.
  • Work with Legal and Procurement to evaluate changes related to insurance in Master Service Agreements and other contracts.
  • Collaborate with senior management to engage with insurance brokers to enhance G&H's risk profile.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A High School diploma or GED is mandatory; a higher degree in engineering, science, finance, business, law, or a related field is preferred; extensive experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks while adhering to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred experience in Maritime Insurance and legal matters.
  • Experience with Jones Act injury claims and all P&I and Hull claims for maritime vessels and personnel.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in risk management, insurance practices, and claims handling.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-driven.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, and capable of using web browsers and email.

Licensure and Certifications

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Work Environment

  • Typical work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with potential for irregular hours as needed.
  • Travel may be required for training, seminars, or work-related events.
  • Work may occur in an office, field, or remote setting, contingent upon job requirements and approval.

  • Assist the executive team with special projects as requested, completing assignments within agreed timelines.
