Job Overview

The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency of machinery at the terminal. This position involves performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on various types of heavy equipment including cranes, excavators, and forklifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Regularly inspect machinery and review operational checklists for potential issues.
  • Prepare requisitions for necessary parts for repairs.
  • Diagnose and rectify equipment malfunctions using appropriate techniques.
  • Offer suggestions to mitigate equipment failures.
  • Disassemble and reassemble parts, major assemblies, and components as needed.
  • Work on systems including powertrains, electrical, HVAC, fuel, and hydraulics.
  • Adjust and align components to ensure optimal performance.
  • Test equipment performance through operational checks and adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of services and repairs.
  • Participate in mandatory safety training sessions.
  • Be open to additional training opportunities.
  • Assist in various operational areas as required.
  • Engage in regular safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience or certifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Completion and maintenance of specialized training and certifications.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks independently.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and maintenance management systems.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment assessments including drug testing and background checks.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate and navigate heavy machinery.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Physical stamina to perform tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to wear personal protective equipment as required.

Position Details:

  • Availability for shift work, including weekends and holidays.
  • Subject to on-call duties as needed.
  • This is a non-exempt position.
