Stormwater Management Engineer

GENERAL OVERVIEW
The role involves executing professional engineering and contract management tasks related to the evaluation and oversight of drainage systems, hydrology, hydraulics, and sediment management for flood control and stormwater quality initiatives. This position is crucial for the planning and implementation of significant drainage strategies, which encompass design, construction, and regulatory compliance.
SUPERVISION STRUCTURE
Operates under the overall guidance of the Director of Planning and Engineering.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee long-term planning, research, and policy development, including the administration of contracts related to drainage management, flood control project design, and stormwater quality initiatives.
- Draft requests for proposals, define scopes of services, participate in selection committees, and negotiate contracts for studies and designs.
- Evaluate construction plans and specifications, providing expert guidance to consulting engineers.
- Manage assigned AMAFCA contract construction projects effectively.
- Conduct inspections of completed projects and monitor operational performance during storm events.
- Maintain ongoing communication with consulting engineers, private developers, and various governmental agencies regarding AMAFCA’s activities.
- Address public inquiries related to flood control and drainage policies and procedures.
- Represent AMAFCA at relevant meetings and public forums concerning drainage matters.
- Support the Director of Planning and Engineering and other team members in their absence.
- Assist the Executive Engineer and other staff as necessary.
- Perform additional duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Requirements
- Graduation from an ABET-accredited institution with a degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a closely related field.
- Possession of a Professional Engineer license in New Mexico for the Licensed Salary Level.
- Engineer-in-Training Certification is necessary for the Unlicensed Salary Level.
- A minimum of four years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience, ideally with a focus on water resource engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, or stormwater management.
- Certification as a Certified Floodplain Manager is preferred.
