POSITION SUMMARY

The role involves executing professional engineering and contract oversight tasks related to the assessment and evaluation of drainage systems, hydrology, hydraulics, and sediment transport. This position is crucial for planning flood control and stormwater quality initiatives within the Greater Albuquerque region. Responsibilities include the implementation of significant drainage strategies, encompassing design, construction, and regulatory compliance, while managing engineering studies and projects.

SUPERVISION

The position operates under the general supervision of the Director of Planning and Engineering.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversee long-term planning, studies, and policy-related matters, including the administration of contracts for drainage management, flood control project design, and stormwater quality initiatives.
  2. Prepare requests for proposals and scopes of services, participate in selection committees, draft agreements, and negotiate contracts for studies and designs.
  3. Review construction documents and specifications, providing expert guidance to consultants.
  4. Manage assigned AMAFCA contract construction projects.
  5. Conduct inspections of completed projects and monitor facility operations during storm events.
  6. Maintain ongoing communication with consulting engineers, private developers, and various governmental agencies regarding AMAFCA's activities and services.
  7. Address public inquiries related to flood control and drainage policies, plans, and procedures in the Greater Albuquerque area.
  8. Represent AMAFCA at meetings and public hearings concerning drainage matters.
  9. Support the Director of Planning and Engineering, Development Review Engineer, or Project Engineer in their absence.
  10. Assist the Executive Engineer, Director of Planning and Engineering, and other staff as needed.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  1. Graduation from an ABET-accredited institution with a degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a closely related field.
  2. Possession of a Professional Engineer license in New Mexico for the Licensed Salary Level.
  3. Engineer-in-Training Certification is required for the Unlicensed Salary Level.
  4. A minimum of four years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably focused on water resource engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, or stormwater management.
  5. Certification as a Certified Floodplain Manager is preferred.
