Job Summary

The University of Southern California is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Budget Business Analyst to join its finance team. As a key member of the department, you will be responsible for administering assigned budgets, reviewing and approving income and expenses, and analyzing current performance to plan and project future budget performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer assigned budgets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Review, approve, and log income and expenses in university financial systems, including Workday, Concur, and Beacon.
  • Analyze current performance to plan and project future budget performance, identifying areas for improvement and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Determine when budget adjustments are required and prepare requests for budget amendments.
  • Reconcile internal records with university financial records, researching and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Process and track cost transfers, including non-payroll and payroll transactions.
  • Assist with tracking of cash receipts, generating invoices, and following up with vendors for outstanding payments.
  • Track equipment purchases and maintain accurate records.
  • Research and gather data for departmental reports, conducting preliminary analysis and recommending report content and format.
  • Assist with annual budget development and submission.
  • Assist with year-end financial transfer and closing activity.
  • Assist in local planning of short- and long-term budgets by compiling and organizing data for use in forecasts.
  • Process payroll allocations for faculty, staff, and students, monitoring and reconciling payroll activity.
  • Stay current with department, school, and university financial policies and procedures, serving as an internal resource and assisting faculty and staff with financial transactions.
Requirements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Aptitude to maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills, including written and oral communication, reading comprehension, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to research, organize, and analyze information.
  • Ability to anticipate potential issues and be proactive in formulating solutions.
  • Self-starter with a results-oriented focus.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and time-sensitive issues, meeting strict deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Must exercise a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Preferred experience: 2 years of directly related work experience, including knowledge of university systems and procedures.
Additional Information

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a 37.5-hour workweek. Eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with flexibility to work on-campus as needed.
