Missoula, Montana, United States Friends of the Children Full time
Community Support Coordinator

Friends of the Children is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating lasting change by empowering youth through meaningful relationships with professional mentors. Our mission is to provide children facing significant challenges with a long-term, salaried mentor, from their early years through high school graduation, ensuring support for over a decade—regardless of the circumstances.

We are in search of an exceptional individual to join our team and embark on a rewarding career path within our organization. Are you interested in being part of a vibrant and supportive national network that utilizes a proven, evidence-based mentoring approach? Do you aspire to work in a collaborative environment that values work-life balance?

If you are eager to make a substantial impact in the lives of vulnerable children in Western Montana, the role of Community Support Coordinator may be the perfect fit for you.

At Friends of the Children, we prioritize the well-being of children and leverage our core values to transform societal perceptions and treatment of youth facing significant barriers. Often, the most effective way to assist a child in distress is to support their family in securing stable housing, connecting parents with employment resources, or guiding caregivers through the complexities of accessing benefits. As a Community Support Coordinator, you will play a vital role in fostering long-term relationships with families, grounded in love, acceptance, and culturally responsive practices.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Understanding available community resources.
  • Collaborating closely with the Program Director to ensure caregivers' fundamental needs are addressed.
  • Working alongside program staff and families to identify service gaps affecting our children and their families.
  • Partnering with the Program Director to cultivate intentional community collaborations that directly benefit our families.
  • Assisting caregivers in effectively navigating external support systems and organizations.
  • Organizing monthly events and activities aimed at enhancing caregiver and family engagement.
  • Documenting caregiver and youth interactions and efforts weekly in our Efforts to Outcomes database.
  • Collaborating with the Program Director to expand enrichment opportunities and community support for siblings of enrolled children.
  • Empowering caregivers by modeling and coaching various parenting and communication skills, including anger management and problem-solving techniques.
  • Encouraging caregivers to implement plans that advance their personal and family goals.
  • Coordinating the organization’s annual caregiver survey.
  • Researching best practices to establish a donation-driven clothing and essential items closet for our children and families.
  • Working with development staff to manage back-to-school supplies, holiday gift initiatives, enrichment experiences, and other in-kind contributions for the children in our program and their siblings.
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Experience in relationship building.
  • Experience leading discussions and workshops on parenting skills, including the Circle of Security approach.
  • Strong scheduling and time management abilities.
  • Excellent data entry and database management skills.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for being part of a growing nonprofit organization.
  • A passion for playing a pivotal role in helping vulnerable children in Western Montana change their life trajectories.
  • A willingness to work flexible and non-traditional hours, including evenings and occasional weekends.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a mental or behavioral health field, along with at least two years of professional experience in a related social service area.
  • A valid driver's license.
Compensation: $44,000

Benefits: Friends of the Children-Western Montana values the health and well-being of our employees. We offer generous vacation and sick leave, numerous paid holidays, a comprehensive insurance package (including dental and vision), long-term disability, life insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, and ongoing professional development opportunities.

Friends of the Children is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to proactively addressing discriminatory practices and striving for racial equity. Our equal employment opportunity policy ensures fair and equal opportunities for all employees and job applicants, regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, marital status, familial status, disability, or genetic information, in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
