Job Overview

As a key member of the Systems Engineering team, this position is responsible for the seamless integration of the RISE Open Fan engine into the flight test demonstrator aircraft.

Role Summary

Systems engineering is a multidisciplinary field that emphasizes a holistic approach, mindset, and methodology. This role encompasses all activities that address both the business and technical requirements of clients, aiming to deliver a high-quality product that fulfills user expectations.

This discipline involves a comprehensive process of design, development, and optimization of systems, which includes:

  • Identifying and quantifying system requirements
  • Creating alternative system design concepts
  • Conducting design trade studies
  • Selecting and implementing optimal designs
  • Verifying that the design is effectively integrated and executed

The process spans from concept through production to operational use, influencing approaches, projects, and programs within the functional area or related business organization. It affects the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the team, with significant input into prioritization. This role operates with moderate autonomy, necessitating high levels of operational judgment.

Key Responsibilities

The individual in this position will collaborate closely with the Systems team, flight test operations, broader engineering teams, external partners, and airframe manufacturers in the following areas:

  • Interface Control Documents:
Negotiate interfaces between internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring the completeness of the ICD framework and individual documents.
  • Architecture Design for Engine-to-Aircraft Interfaces:
Lead system-level integration and design efforts, considering system interactions and ensuring the accuracy of digital models, interface stack-ups, and kinematics. Assess impacts on accessibility, integration, and requirements due to design changes.
  • Requirements and Risk Coordination:
Lead trade studies and guide overall design to balance system and airframer requirements. Conduct system-level risk assessments and develop implementation plans for risk mitigation.

Additional Responsibilities

Conduct integration of components and products, focusing on maximizing performance and operability. Manage product and system requirements, specifications, and their flow down. Drive validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system-level testing. Define product requirements for modules, components, subcontractors, and partner teams. Oversee the interface between components and execution organizations.

Responsible for managing critical-to-quality (CTQ) and risk trades within the design teams. Maintain overall product configuration and control systems. Develop specialized knowledge in the discipline, serving as a resource for best practices and quality assurance. Stay informed about the latest technical advancements in the field and contribute to strategy and policy development.

Utilize judgment to make decisions or resolve moderately complex issues in operational management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering. Approach existing solutions from new perspectives, leveraging technical expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Act as a resource for less experienced colleagues and may lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.

Qualifications

Required:
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution
6 years of experience in Systems Engineering

Preferred:
Master's degree in engineering from an accredited institution
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with external partners and clients
Willingness to travel approximately quarterly
