Your contributions will play a vital role in the development of cutting-edge jet engines, components, and integrated systems that power both commercial and military aircraft.

You will join a team that values your initiative, curiosity, and diverse perspectives. Engage in continuous learning and growth as part of our ongoing LEAN transformation. Most importantly, you will share in our mission that impacts millions of lives globally.

We seek your expertise to help us shape the future of flight within the Advanced Technologies Organization at GE Aviation.

Are you ready to influence aviation for years to come? Your involvement with RISE Technologies, including our innovative Open Fan architecture, will lead to a new era of propulsion technology for next-generation aircraft, paving the way for a more sustainable future.

The Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer will report to the design sub-section manager of Emerging Technologies and will be accountable for the mechanical design, production, and delivery of hardware utilized in the development testing of the next generation of narrow-body jet engines.

Your responsibilities will include the design of the accessory drive train (encompassing bearings, gears, housings, seals, and related hardware) for RISE engine demonstrator programs to support ground/flight test demonstrators, rig tests, and product designs.

This position offers the flexibility of an optional hybrid work schedule once fully trained.

The hybrid schedule entails working in the office a minimum of 3 days per week, with the option to work from home on the remaining days, depending on team/project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Mechanical Systems Gearbox Design Engineer, you will:
  • Collaborate with a closely-knit team of engineers and scientists to design the next generation of jet engine turbomachinery.
  • Work in conjunction with internal and external manufacturing entities to deliver hardware for rig, core, and full engine testing.
  • Lead initiatives to address both technical and scheduling challenges with appropriate guidance.
  • Present findings to subject matter experts and program leaders during technical reviews.
  • Participate actively in technical reviews.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation of work.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 additional years of engineering experience in Mechanical Systems Hardware, including but not limited to: bearings, gears, seals, shafts, structural housings, oil systems, air systems, lube/P&V systems, or heat exchangers.
Desired Attributes
  • Experience in the Aerospace Industry or a related field.
  • Demonstrated facilitation and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
  • A flexible and approachable demeanor when working in teams both locally and globally.
  • A highly motivated self-starter focused on resolving technical issues and driving solutions.
  • Ability to develop and implement program plans, as well as effectively communicate status, challenges, and recovery strategies.
  • A minimum of 5 additional years of experience in an engineering role.

At GE Aviation, we are committed to the future of safe and sustainable flight and believe in our talented workforce to make it a reality.

Here, you will have the chance to work on exciting projects alongside intelligent and collaborative individuals. Together, we will usher in a new era of growth in aerospace and defense. Where others see obstacles, we see opportunities.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Final offers will be contingent upon the ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
