Role Summary:

The Assistant Principal - Academic plays a crucial role in supporting the Superintendent and Principal in managing the academic framework of the school. This position involves:

Leadership in Teaching and Learning

  • Serve as the primary administrator on the Instructional Leadership Team, fostering a collaborative culture focused on the academic, social, emotional, and artistic development of all students.
  • Facilitate planning sessions for units and lessons to provide differentiated instructional strategies that help students progress toward grade-level expectations.
  • Conduct regular audits of lesson plans and student performance data to guide coaching and support efforts.
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of curriculum aligned with the Academy's mission of academic excellence.
  • Ensure the arts-integrated, project-based curriculum is systematically reviewed and revised to meet educational standards.

Student Achievement Oversight

  • Continuously assess student progress to ensure mastery of grade-level standards across various subjects.
  • Utilize a wide range of data to identify learning gaps and support teaching efforts.
  • Collaborate with educational leaders to analyze trends and develop solutions to meet annual performance goals.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Lead initiatives for professional learning and development, providing coaching and feedback to instructional staff.
  • Manage the comprehensive assessment program to evaluate student learning outcomes.

Human Resources and Compliance

  • Coordinate with campus personnel regarding support systems and committees focused on student success.

Effective Communication

  • Maintain high-level communication regarding teaching and learning with staff, families, and the community.
  • Communicate student progress effectively to families, fostering relationships based on trust and respect.

Organizational Leadership

  • Oversee the development of the master schedule and daily activities, ensuring efficient operations within the school.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the Assistant Principal - Academic position will demonstrate a strong commitment to the Academy's mission and possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Principal certification preferred; T-TESS appraiser certification preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in core subjects.
  • Experience in instructional leadership or curriculum development.
  • Proven track record of achieving educational goals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable to high standards.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

Compensation and Benefits:

The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts offers a competitive salary range of $72,500-$75,000 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health benefits and professional development opportunities.
