The Medical Billing and Coding Instructor plays a vital role in delivering exceptional educational experiences to students enrolled in the medical billing and coding program. Reporting directly to the Campus Director, this position is responsible for creating comprehensive lesson plans, evaluating student progress, and ensuring that the curriculum adheres to industry standards, equipping students for certification examinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction and Curriculum Design:
Conduct engaging lectures and practical training sessions covering essential topics such as medical office procedures, medical terminology, billing practices, and relevant software applications. - Revise and enhance the curriculum to reflect current industry practices and standards.
- Develop lesson plans, assignments, and assessments that foster skill acquisition and knowledge retention.
- Student Evaluation and Support:
Assess student performance through various methods including exams, projects, and practical exercises. - Provide constructive feedback to facilitate student development and success.
- Offer additional tutoring and academic advising to support students in achieving their educational and career objectives.
- Compliance and Certification Readiness:
Ensure the program meets all necessary regulatory and accreditation requirements. - Prepare students for industry-recognized certification exams, such as the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
- Stay informed about updates in medical billing and coding standards and certification processes.
- Professional Growth:
Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and industry knowledge, including attending relevant workshops and conferences.
- Administrative Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and overall progress. - Participate in faculty meetings and curriculum evaluation sessions.
- Assist in student recruitment and retention initiatives.
- Community and Industry Collaboration:
Build and sustain relationships with healthcare industry partners and employers. - Coordinate externship opportunities to provide students with practical experience.
- Promote the program to prospective students and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a related discipline.
- Professional certification in medical billing and coding (e.g., CPC, CCS).
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience in medical billing and coding.
- Prior teaching or training experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and healthcare reimbursement methodologies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in educational technology and learning management systems.
Working Environment
