Mainspring Energy, Inc. is seeking experienced Senior Mechanical Engineers specializing in hardware design with a focus on thermal and fluid dynamics. In this role, you will be responsible for the design of hardware systems for air and liquid management. The ideal candidate will innovate new concepts and oversee existing designs through development, deployment, and manufacturing phases. Our environment is ideal for engineers with deep expertise who enjoy tackling complex cross-functional challenges through a combination of computational analysis, hands-on engineering, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead brainstorming sessions to generate innovative solutions for enhancing the Linear Generator.
  • Design and optimize critical thermal subsystems to reduce costs, enhance performance, and ensure high reliability.
  • Collaborate with reliability and testing teams to validate systems and components, facilitating rapid learning cycles for the next generation of Linear Generators.
  • Work cross-functionally with manufacturing engineering, new product introduction, and external suppliers to expedite the transition of new designs into production.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, with 6 years of relevant industry experience, or a Master's degree with 4 years of experience.
  • Proven experience in designing air or liquid handling systems, demonstrating strong engineering fundamentals in thermo-fluid system design.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or a comparable CAD software, with experience in PDM or similar version control systems preferred.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (structural, thermal, or fluid).
  • Familiarity with thermal systems design simulation tools, both 1D and 3D.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers to develop and qualify new components.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes, including sheet metal forming, machining, and plastics molding.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce and review design documentation, bills of materials, work instructions, and test plans and reports.
  • Experience utilizing GD&T is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated with a proven track record of delivering functional product designs in a fast-paced development environment, with experience throughout the full design lifecycle.
  • Passion for developing innovative and cost-effective solutions to support the large-scale deployment of zero-carbon energy technologies.

The compensation for this role is competitive, reflecting the Bay Area market, with a base salary range of $130k-$145k, plus pre-IPO stock options and benefits. Salary will be adjusted based on the candidate's experience.
