Lead Engineer for Battery Systems

Key Responsibilities
Mainspring Energy, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled engineer to take charge of battery system architecture for our innovative Linear Generator. As part of the electrical and electromechanical team, your role will encompass:
- Taking ownership of the design and engineering of a high voltage (800V+) battery pack(s) to facilitate backup operations of the Linear Generator.
- Overseeing the technical collaboration with external partners involved in the joint development and production of battery packs.
- Establishing design specifications for the battery pack and its battery management system (BMS) to guarantee dependable and efficient performance throughout its operational lifespan.
- Conducting system modeling activities to address all potential design scenarios.
- Leading the integration, validation, and reliability assessment of the battery pack.
- Ensuring compliance with safety certification standards (e.g., UL 1973) for the battery pack and fostering a culture of safety within the organization.
- Working closely with mechanical, controls, software, testing, manufacturing, and operations teams to successfully transition the battery pack solution into production.
- Acting as the internal authority on battery systems within Mainspring.
This position offers a hybrid work model, requiring on-site presence for testing, troubleshooting, and manufacturing support as necessary.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical hardware development.
- At least 5 years of practical experience in high voltage battery development and integration into electrical systems.
- In-depth technical knowledge of both high voltage and low voltage battery design, including a solid understanding of BMS principles.
- Experience in managing partnerships with joint development manufacturers or contract manufacturers.
- Proven leadership capabilities and project management expertise.
- A collaborative mindset with effective communication skills across diverse teams and personalities.
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with various battery chemistries and the ability to articulate their respective advantages and disadvantages.
- Experience throughout the entire hardware development lifecycle, from requirement gathering to manufacturing support, including taking at least one product through to volume production.
- Background in a startup or fast-paced development environment.
The compensation for this role is competitive and includes base salary, stock options, and benefits. This is a hybrid position.
