Position Overview

Mainspring Energy, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled engineer to take charge of battery system architecture for our innovative Linear Generator. As a pivotal member of our electrical and electromechanical division, your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the design and creation of high voltage (800V+) battery packs to support backup operations of the Linear Generator.
  • Managing technical collaborations with external partners for the joint development and production of battery systems.
  • Establishing design specifications for the battery pack and its Battery Management System (BMS) to guarantee dependable and efficient performance throughout its operational lifespan.
  • Conducting system modeling initiatives to address all potential design scenarios.
  • Leading the integration, validation, and reliability assessments of battery packs.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety certifications for battery packs according to relevant UL standards and fostering a culture of safety within the organization.
  • Working closely with mechanical, controls, software, testing, manufacturing, and operations teams to successfully transition battery pack solutions into production.
  • Acting as the internal authority on battery systems within Mainspring.

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring on-site presence for testing, troubleshooting, and manufacturing support as necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical hardware development.
  • At least 5 years of practical experience in high voltage battery development and integration within electrical systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of both high voltage and low voltage battery design, including foundational understanding of BMS.
  • Experience in managing partnerships with joint development manufacturers or contract manufacturers.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management capabilities.
  • A collaborative mindset with proven communication skills across diverse teams.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in various battery chemistries, with the ability to articulate their respective advantages and disadvantages.
  • Experience across the complete hardware development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to manufacturing support, including involvement in at least one product's transition to mass production.
  • Background in a startup or fast-paced development environment.
