Key Responsibilities

We are in search of Senior Mechanical Engineers specializing in the design of hardware that necessitates thermal and fluid analysis. In this capacity, you will be responsible for designing hardware for air and liquid handling systems. You will innovate new concepts and oversee existing designs throughout their development, deployment, and manufacturing phases. Mainspring is an ideal environment for engineers with deep expertise who enjoy tackling complex cross-functional challenges through a combination of computational analysis, hands-on engineering, and teamwork.

  • Lead and engage in brainstorming sessions to devise innovative improvements for all aspects of the Linear Generator.
  • Design and enhance critical thermal subsystems of the Linear Generator to reduce costs, enhance performance, and ensure high reliability.
  • Collaborate with reliability and testing teams to validate systems and components, facilitating rapid learning cycles for the next generation of Linear Generators.
  • Work cross-functionally with manufacturing engineering, new product introduction (NPI), and external suppliers to swiftly implement new designs into production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution, along with 6 years of relevant industry experience, or a Master's Degree with 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in designing air or liquid handling systems, demonstrating strong engineering fundamentals in thermo-fluid system design.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or a comparable CAD software, with experience in using PDM or similar CAD version control systems preferred.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (structural, thermal, or fluid dynamics).
  • Familiarity with 1D or 3D thermal systems design simulation tools.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers to develop and qualify new components.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes, including sheet metal forming, machining, and plastics molding.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to create and review design documentation, bills of materials, work instructions, and test plans and reports.
  • Experience utilizing GD&T is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated with a proven track record of delivering functional product designs in a fast-paced development environment. Experience with the complete design lifecycle from concept to manufacturing support is preferred.
  • Passion for developing innovative and cost-effective solutions to enable the large-scale deployment of zero-carbon energy technologies.

The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience, including pre-IPO stock options and comprehensive benefits.
