Mainspring is on the lookout for Senior Mechanical Engineers specializing in the design of hardware requiring thermal and fluid analysis. In this role, you will be responsible for the design of systems handling air and liquids. You will innovate new concepts and oversee existing designs through their development, deployment, and manufacturing phases. Mainspring offers a dynamic environment for engineers with diverse expertise who enjoy tackling complex cross-functional challenges through a combination of computational analysis, hands-on engineering, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead brainstorming sessions to devise innovative improvements for all aspects of the Linear Generator.
  • Develop and enhance critical thermal subsystems to reduce costs, boost performance, and ensure high reliability.
  • Collaborate with reliability and testing teams to validate systems and components, facilitating rapid learning cycles for the next generation of Linear Generators.
  • Work cross-functionally with manufacturing engineering, new product introduction, and external suppliers to swiftly transition new designs into production.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 6 years of relevant industry experience, or a Master's Degree with at least 4 years of experience.
  • Proven experience in designing air or liquid handling systems, demonstrating strong engineering fundamentals in thermo-fluid system design.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or a comparable CAD software, with preferred experience in PDM or similar CAD version control systems.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (structural, thermal, or fluids).
  • Familiarity with 1D or 3D thermal systems design simulation tools.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers to develop and qualify new components.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes, including sheet metal forming, machining, and plastics molding.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to create and review design documentation, bills of materials, work instructions, and test plans and reports.
  • Experience utilizing GD&T is preferred.
  • Self-motivated with a proven track record of delivering functional product designs in a fast-paced development environment. Experience with the complete design lifecycle from concept to manufacturing support is advantageous.
  • Passion for developing innovative and cost-effective solutions to facilitate the large-scale deployment of zero-carbon energy technologies.
