About the Role

Mainspring Energy, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Menlo Park, CA. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in designing and developing innovative thermal systems for our linear generator technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Thermal Systems Design: Lead and participate in brainstorming activities to develop novel ways to improve all aspects of the Linear Generator's thermal subsystems.
  • System Optimization: Develop and optimize key thermal subsystems to drive down cost, improve performance, and deliver high reliability.
  • Collaboration and Validation: Work with reliability and test teams to validate systems and components with fast cycles of learning for deployment into the next generation of Linear Generators.
  • Manufacturing Support: Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing engineering, NPI, and external suppliers to rapidly deploy new designs into production.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar engineering field from an accredited institution + 6 years of relevant industry experience or MS + 4 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Design Experience: Direct experience designing air or liquid handling systems, with demonstrated engineering fundamentals in thermo-fluid system design.
  • Technical Skills: Fluent in SolidWorks or comparable CAD package. Experience with using PDM or a similar CAD version control system is preferred.
  • Analysis and Simulation: Experience with finite element analysis (structural, thermal, or fluids) and familiarity with 1D or 3D thermal systems design simulation tools.
  • Manufacturing and Supply Chain: Experience working with suppliers to develop and qualify new components and experience with various manufacturing processes such as sheet metal forming, machining, and plastics molding and forming.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Demonstrated attention to detail with the ability to generate and review design documentation, bill of materials, work instructions, and test plans and reports.
  • Additional Requirements: Self-starter with a proven ability to deliver functional product designs in a rapid development environment. Experience with a full design lifecycle from concept through manufacturing support is preferred.
