Bank of Botetourt is seeking a Customer Service Banking Specialist for our Salem Office. Candidates with 3 to 5 years of banking experience are preferred. This role encompasses a range of banking responsibilities, including executing teller transactions, delivering exceptional customer service, and advocating for bank products and services. Additionally, the position involves supervising teller operations and maintaining accurate records for vault and teller station cash balances. Applicants will be tasked with the sales and provision of retail banking products and services, such as initiating new accounts and processing consumer loan applications, while engaging with both individual and business clients to enhance and nurture banking relationships, ultimately contributing to branch objectives.

This role is essential in ensuring our customers receive the highest level of service while processing transactions, assisting current and prospective clients, and contributing to branch sales targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome customers and manage deposits of all types, ensuring proper endorsement on negotiable instruments.
  • Process loan payments, ensuring accuracy and collection of any applicable late fees.
  • Issue certified checks, VISA travel and gift cards, cashier checks, and guide customers on purchasing US Savings Bonds.
  • Handle bank-by-mail and night depository items, recording necessary information on bank forms.
  • Facilitate account closures or fund transfers as requested.
  • Collect utility payments and distribute funds to the appropriate companies.
  • Complete the "IRS Currency Transaction Report 4789" for all cash transactions exceeding $10,000.
  • Count, verify, and package currency and coin.
  • Balance cash drawers and prepare teller reports.
  • Cash checks, process withdrawals from savings accounts, and redeem savings bonds and coupons.
  • Consistently exhibit a friendly and helpful demeanor, committed to delivering outstanding customer service.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the Bank's products and services.
  • Identify opportunities to promote Bank services.
  • Sell and/or refer the Bank's products and services to customers and prospects, collaborating with management on retail sales goals.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of currency and coin in the till.
  • Understand procedures in the event of a robbery, whether as a victim or bystander, and know the proper post-robbery protocols.
  • Keep a tidy and organized workspace, ensuring that all negotiable items and confidential records are securely stored.
  • Utilize the computer system to check account statuses.
  • Operate standard office equipment, including coin sorters, currency counters, and other necessary machines.
  • Ensure teller stations are adequately stocked with forms and supplies.
  • Assist in balancing ATMs.
  • Support the processing of deposits for the Bank of Botetourt Elementary Savings Program.
