Director of Business Development – Pharmaceutical Contract Manufacturing

Our client, a reputable contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), has been a leader in the industry for over three decades, employing more than 5,000 professionals worldwide. Their primary focus is on the development and manufacturing of small molecule finished drug products. They stand out in the pharmaceutical sector by offering integrated services that facilitate product development and manufacturing within a single organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and cultivate potential partnerships to secure new accounts while maintaining and enhancing existing business relationships.
  • Establish connections with key decision-makers in the industry.
  • Oversee the entire contract lifecycle, from drafting to negotiation and execution.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of client objectives, pipelines, and forecasts using available tools.
  • Participate in industry conventions and events to foster relationships and uncover business opportunities.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through regular communication and feedback solicitation.
  • Address client concerns promptly and develop strategies to enhance satisfaction.
  • Review, draft, negotiate, and finalize agreements related to CDMO services, while understanding legal risks and company positions.
  • Stay informed about market trends and developments.
  • Prepare insightful reports and recommendations for senior leadership, ensuring alignment with deliverable capabilities.
  • Achieve monthly and annual sales targets while managing business development activities within budget.
  • Travel to meet clients and attend trade shows.
  • Engage in networking at trade shows, business seminars, and client entertainment events.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the healthcare industry, including market dynamics, trends, competitors, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Address both business and technical client needs by preparing contracts and proposals for new and existing opportunities.
  • Present sales opportunities and key activities to the business development team and senior management monthly.
  • Develop and monitor metrics to assess the success of CDMO initiatives.
  • Report on sales and forecasts utilizing business planning tools.
  • Communicate results and concerns to senior leaders, proposing potential solutions and identifying opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a scientific discipline, with 5-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical sector.
  • Proven track record in developing and managing relationships within the pharmaceutical industry, particularly with brand companies, including successful contract negotiations.

  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to build and maintain internal relationships.
  • Expertise in fostering relationships with customers and decision-makers in the branded pharmaceutical sector.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledgeable about the technical aspects of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing.
  • Awareness of trends and developments in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Willingness to travel frequently.
