As an integral part of Staff's leadership team, the Vice President of Financial Strategy will oversee and manage the organization's financial operations, contributing to its financial growth, structure, and strategic direction. The Vice President will be expected to gain a comprehensive understanding of the organization's financial mechanisms, including but not limited to partner compensation, banking, and billing processes. Daily management of all financial operations will be a key responsibility.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide strategic financial insights to Senior Management regarding the financial implications of business activities, making recommendations to enhance overall financial performance.
  • Conduct special analyses and evaluations to support significant business decisions.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from Partners concerning financial, compensation, and tax-related matters.
  • Collaboratively develop operational policies and procedures aimed at achieving business objectives.
  • Act as a vital business partner and contributor to growth strategies, business development initiatives, and long-term planning, ensuring that current revenue-generating strategies add value to the organization.
  • Build, develop, and lead a robust finance department, ensuring efficient daily operations of accounting and finance functions through direct supervision and goal setting.
  • Prepare both short- and long-term financial forecasts and analyses.
  • Enhance and refine financial processes and procedures, creating a framework that aligns with the organization's business focus on people, processes, and systems.
  • Lead the budgeting process for the organization.
  • Coordinate tax return filings and ensure the proper maintenance of accounting records in compliance with statutory requirements and organizational policies.
  • Oversee the organization’s equity partner compensation programs and reporting.
  • Deliver insightful financial reporting packages for Senior Management's review.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Pricing Officer to establish protocols for the review and management of alternative fee arrangements and significant client matters.
  • Drive best practices within the industry regarding client billing and collections.
  • Represent the organization at industry events and conferences.
  • Manage banking relationships across all areas of need.
  • Maintain and continuously develop a strong network of external contacts, leveraging professional relationships for the benefit of the organization.
  • Lead special project teams and undertake special projects as required.
Position Requirements

In addition to the necessary skills and experience to fulfill the responsibilities outlined above, the ideal candidate will possess several key traits.

Technical Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • Experience as a Director of Finance, Controller, or CFO.
  • A minimum of several years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Experience in professional services and the legal industry is strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing a multi-office environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong appreciation for procedures, processes, and operational excellence.
  • Excellent presentation skills with a strong executive presence and public speaking ability.
  • A robust network of external professional contacts.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
