Position Overview

The Vice President of Information Technology at the Wharton School is a pivotal leader responsible for steering the strategic planning, execution, and management of technological resources that bolster and enhance the School's academic and research objectives.

The Vice President will collaborate closely with senior leadership to formulate and implement technology strategies that drive innovation in business education and research.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Direction:

Formulate and execute a progressive technology strategy that aligns with the School's aspirations for innovation and excellence in business education and research.


Technology Oversight:

Supervise the planning, execution, and support of all technology-related requirements, encompassing enterprise systems, client technology, custom applications, advanced research, and instructional services.


Innovation Leadership:

Remain informed about technological advancements to ensure the School leverages cutting-edge technology to fulfill academic and research demands. Spearhead the development and deployment of innovative products and services.


Information Security & Privacy:

Foster a culture of information security, privacy, and digital transformation. Support the School's mission by identifying and mitigating risks to acceptable levels.


Team Management:

Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of over 135 professionals. Cultivate a collaborative and high-performance culture that promotes growth and development.


Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the technology organization. Recognize the significance of diverse perspectives in driving innovation and problem-solving in IT. Develop and implement strategies to create an inclusive environment where all voices are valued.


Budget Management:

Oversee an annual budget exceeding $35 million, ensuring effective resource allocation to support strategic initiatives and operational efficiency.


Vendor Relations:

Establish and maintain strong, mutually beneficial partnerships with technology vendors. Negotiate and manage vendor contracts to ensure optimal value and services, leveraging these partnerships to drive innovation and efficiency.


Stakeholder Engagement:

Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders to understand their needs and ensure that technology services meet or exceed expectations.


Qualifications:

A master's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline, along with over 10 years of extensive IT leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in higher education or a similar complex, multi-stakeholder environment is highly desirable.


Proven Success:

Demonstrated success in managing large-scale IT projects, developing and implementing IT strategies, and leading digital transformation initiatives.


Budget Oversight:

Experience managing substantial budgets and ensuring cost-effective technology investments.


Technical and Managerial Skills:

Ability to develop and implement a long-term IT vision that aligns with institutional goals and objectives, alongside strong project management skills to oversee the execution of IT projects on time and within budget.


Soft Skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address IT challenges and implement effective solutions, along with adaptability to the rapidly changing technology landscape.


Collaboration:

Excellent interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across departments and with external partners.
