Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Paraeducator to join our team at Flett Middle School. As a Paraeducator, you will provide direct instructional support and training to special needs students, assisting the special education teacher in designing and developing curriculum, and providing clerical support in the Resource program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the special education teacher in providing direct instructional support and training to special needs students.
  • Design and develop curriculum in reading, English, social studies, and math under the direction of the teacher for use in the Resource room.
  • Provide support to the teacher regarding individual students and program needs and behavior concerns.
  • Provide clerical support in the Resource program.
  • Perform other duties as related and assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited college, AA or BA degree, or pass an academically rigorous assessment.
  • Must complete Core Competencies within one year if hired into a Paraeducator position.
  • One year of successful work experience and school district experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with students who have disabilities.
  • Training or experience working with students who have disabilities.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to aggressive and physical behaviors.
  • Physically capable of lifting a student if necessary (up to 50 pounds), kneeling, and bending.
  • Willing to toilet or feed special needs students, if necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators in a positive, professional, and confidential manner.
  • Proficiency in basic communication skills, math, English, and social studies and any other areas related to the targeted grade level of the Resource students.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills.
  • Ability to utilize soft restraint and de-escalation techniques.
  • Ability to see, hear, and listen to the teacher and students throughout the classroom or school settings in order to supervise and maintain a safe environment for a diverse group of students.
  • Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
