As the primary provider of services for victims of domestic violence in Albany County, our Domestic Violence Programs ensure safety and support for all victims, including vulnerable populations such as the elderly. We provide essential resources and assistance to help individuals escape abusive environments and regain control over their lives, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

Role Summary

The Residential Support Supervisor plays a critical role in assisting residents with their daily requirements, offering crisis intervention, and providing empathetic listening. This position involves managing the 24-hour crisis hotline, executing various administrative tasks, and ensuring a secure and supportive environment. The supervisor will oversee both full-time and part-time Residential Counselors and respite staff, as well as coordinate shelter coverage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with residents positively and constructively.
  • Support residents in fulfilling their daily needs.
  • Respond to the 24-hour crisis hotline, offering crisis intervention, supportive listening, and information referrals.
  • Schedule counseling appointments for clients.
  • Enforce program policies and monitor resident adherence.
  • Handle administrative duties as directed by the shelter manager.
  • Supervise and assess the performance of residential counselors.
  • Address emergency situations promptly and effectively.
  • Ensure adequate staffing through effective scheduling.
  • Document relevant information in logs and case notes, and communicate updates to staff.
  • Train residential counselors on shelter protocols.
  • Conduct intakes and orientation for new residents.
  • Maintain shelter security.
  • Participate in staff meetings and supervision sessions as required.
  • Assist in recruiting and hiring residential counselors.
  • Report any suspected child abuse or maltreatment as mandated.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrate calmness and cooperation while utilizing crisis intervention techniques.
  • Engage effectively with a diverse population.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality regarding client information.
  • Participate in group meal preparation and basic household maintenance.
  • Encourage positive performance from the residential counselor team.
  • Provide objective support and guidance to residents.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal forms.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned to enhance program effectiveness.
Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to navigate stairs.
  • Capability to drive and transport clients using agency vehicles.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Proficient in answering telephone calls.
  • Ability to manage facility emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree.
  • Possession of a clean, valid NYS Driver's License.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in human services.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a domestic violence program.
  • A minimum of 1 year of residential experience.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, local resources, and relevant regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Fluency in Spanish or additional languages is a plus.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday.
  • On-call responsibilities.
  • Flexibility to cover shifts as needed, including overtime, evenings, overnight, weekends, and holidays.
